performer requires old library: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 |
|
Sorry for length of post -- have been working on this a while, but this as short as can get it for now...
Installing sgi-performer clipdemos and demos .rpms seems to require an old library that was available thru a compat-lib associated with some older OSs (RH7.3 definitely). libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 is a linked lib that is supposedly provided by a few different compat-libs currently available off rpmfind.net.
So far I have tried to install compat-lib 296
However, I am not sure if dependencies for the compat-lib 296 were available before >installing< the compat-lib 296...In any case, the >included< required file (libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2) is Not installed in /usr/lib, or anywhere (sgi-performer or I can find) on the system.
I have tried a number of schemes (copying a file to the name libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2, linking copied lib to files that supposedly associated (to make apps work -- several are mentioned online)
No luck so far...
Questions that occur to me:
1. Can anyone tell what libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 links to in the older installations?
Also, with what old compat-lib is the (old install of) libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 associated?
2. Concerning dependcies for installing the rpmfind.net compat-libs (there are several that supposedly include libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2):
links to some example compat-libs include 2 sent by Alex Hill:
http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/fedora/devel/i386/compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-139.i386.html
http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/PLD/dists/ra/PLD/i386/PLD/RPMS/libstdc++-compat-1.0-6.i386.html
For any compat-lib, I am confused over how to find, install, or if the older GLIB_C files or if these old libs will cause conflicts with the later libs that are presently installed and working
For example, compat-lib 296 requires
* /sbin/ldconfig
* /sbin/ldconfig
* libc.so.6
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)
* libgcc_s.so.1
* libgcc_s.so.1(GLIBC_2.0)
* libm.so.6
* libm.so.6(GLIBC_2.0)
* libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3
* rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) = 3.0.4-1
* rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) = 4.0-1
On my laptop using (latest kernel update of) fc7, the files listed below are either Not installed or I can't find them -- If installed in future (if any are actually necessary (?)), it would be good to know if any will/might cause troubles elsewhere and so on...
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3)
* libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)
* rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) = 3.0.4-1
* rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) = 4.0-1
Note on current glibc files:
> rpm -qa | grep glibc*
glibc-common-2.6-4
glibc-devel-2.6-4
glib2-2.12.13-1.fc7
glibc-headers-2.6-4
3. Currently installed libs include
# rpm -qa | grep libstdc++
libstdc++-4.1.2-27.fc7
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61
compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138
libstdc++-devel-4.1.2-27.fc7
Tho, as mentioned, will have same questions as in #2 above for any other compat-lib, and tho online haven't seen any indication of any conflicts arising, is there any known interference between any compat-libs (any chance of wire-crossing if installing multiple compat-libs)?
Thanks in advance for any info --

necessary lib for performer |
|
re: failed dependencies when installing performer clipdemos and demo rpms when using OS which does not include libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2
The fedora forum was helpful in this case -- thanks to leigh123@fedora who suggested a process to get libstdc++-libc6.1.1.so.6
-- note in this case the compat-lib 296 was installed; if no new compat-libs were installed before starting, skip the yum erase step, yes? :]
su
yum erase compat-libstdc++-296
wget ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/ASPLinux/i386/RPMS.11/compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.118asp.i386.rpm
rpm -i compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.118asp.i386.rpm
There might be a warning message, but perfly will run
cheers
